A guide to a better sex life simply by using hormones

It's natural for sex hormones to decrease as you age. It's also natural for your sex life to suffer. Testosterone and estrogen are the two main sex hormones in the body.

The testes primarily produce testosterone, and the ovaries produce estrogen. Both are essential hormones not only for sexual function but also for your brain, bones and blood vessels. When levels become low, your sexual libido may decrease.

But don’t worry, you don’t have to give up passionate sex later in life. You can boost your estrogen and testosterone levels naturally through diet and hormone replacement therapy.

This guide will show you how to have a better sex life simply by using hormones.

The role of hormones in sexual desire

While the true path to the origin of sexual desire may always be a mystery, scientists do know that hormones are key. Hormones act as chemical communicators throughout the body. Studies have shown that men with boosted levels of testosterone have more sexual activity and orgasms.

Men with low testosterone may experience hypogonadism. Hypogonadism is the condition when men don’t produce enough testosterone, leading to a low sperm count, erectile dysfunction and decreased sex drive.

Women with optimal levels of estrogen may experience a stronger sexual appetite. When estrogen levels fall after menopause, women may experience symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness and reduced sex drive.

Hormone replacement therapy

Hormone therapy is the process of replacing the missing hormones with natural ones. Choosing the right bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is crucial to using hormones for improved sex life. Below are some options to consider.

  • Testosterone therapy
  • Estrogen therapy
  • DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) therapy
  • Progesterone therapy.

Men and women have different choices when it comes to hormone replacement therapy. Topical creams and gels are natural choices for their ease and availability. You rub a prescribed amount on your skin once or twice a day, and your skin absorbs the hormone transdermally.

Hormones and sexual desire

Using hormones to jumpstart a healthy sex life may take time. Boosting hormone through diet and supplementation may happen over days or weeks. In the meantime, keep the following guidelines in mind.

Foreplay

When beginning the process of improving your sex life, explore prolonged foreplay. Low levels of hormones cause vaginal atrophy (dryness) and low energy. If you take the time to build-up to the sexual act itself, it may be more enjoyable.

More sleep

Studies show there’s a connection between less sleep and lower hormone levels. Try to get 8-10 hours of sleep per day to increase your hormone naturally.

Eliminate stress

While this piece of advice may be easier said than done, it's important to remember that stress makes you less interested in sex, to begin with.

Have more sex

Once you begin to enjoy sex again, you'll discover that having sex encourages more intercourse. Your body's hormones surge and sexual desire returns when your sex life becomes consistent.

While scientists may not know the exact connection between hormones and sexual desire, it's clear that low levels of estrogen and testosterone have detrimental effects on sexual libido. If you're suffering from low hormones, using hormones for a better sex life may be what you need.
