10 Signs you might you might be low on DHEA

Your body naturally produces dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in the adrenal gland. As the Mayo Clinic explains, DHEA, in turn, produces other sex hormones like testosterone, progesterone, and estrogen. DHEA levels decline with age and cause health problems. Fortunately, a low level of DHEA can be helped through supplementation. That is if you should use DHEA, to begin with.

Symptoms of Low DHEA Levels

1. Weight Gain

Weight loss becomes harder as you age. DHEA deficiency causes hormonal imbalance leading to gaining weight.  Weight management becomes easier when taking DHEA to improve levels of testosterone and estrogen. 7-keto DHEA can also help.

3. Depression

Mental health issues like depression and anxiety affect millions of people each day. Signs of depression include antipathy, insomnia, sleepiness, poor appetite, and lack of energy. Research shows that DHEA provides hormonal balance, leading to renewed energy and zest for life.

4. Low Sex Drive

Reduced testosterone levels due to poor DHEA production may lead to decreased sex drive. A lack of desire for sex due to adrenal deficiencies of DHEA causes feelings of inadequacy depression and low fertility rates. Clinical trials reveal that supplementation brings a renewed sense of vitality and desire.

5. Dry Skin

Flaky dry skin can be painful and unattractive. Psoriasis is common for people of different ages and backgrounds but tends to affect the young and elderly the most. Another benefit of optimal DHEA levels is healthier and younger-looking skin. It provides a safe and effective skincare regiment.

6. Brittle Bones

Osteoporosis is a serious condition that leads to brittle bones. Preliminary evidence shows that DHEA supplementation in elderly women and men with a low level of DHEA can improve age-related changes in body composition due to aging. Overall it can improve bone health and athletic performance.

7. Low Energy

Marcelle Pick, the co-founder of the Women to Women clinic, encourages women with low energy levels to transform their health with integrative medicine. She advocates that poor functioning adrenal gland leads to adrenal fatigue. Since the adrenal gland produces DHEA, it’s natural to supplement to increase energy.

8. Mood Swings

If you’ve been feeling irritable for no reason or your mood has become unpredictable, you might have low amounts of DHEA. Hormonal imbalance is the number one cause of mood swings and increasing sex hormones (testosterone and estrogen) in your body helps you find the right mood balancer.

9. Vaginal Dryness

Vaginal atrophy or dryness is a typical pre and postmenopausal symptom. Menopause typically begins around age 50, but younger women can experience vaginal dryness too. Being dry causes extreme discomfort, especially during sexual intercourse. This condition is not only painful but harms intimacy and relationships.

10. Poor Memory

Research indicates that DHEA can improve memory and help control memory decline in Alzheimer's patients. Since DHEA declines as one age, adding a low dose of DHEA daily helps combat age-related conditions such as memory loss.

Success stories of people taking DHEA for health concerns abound in mass media. For some, it might seem like a trend, rather than a viable health solution. But the symptoms of low DHEA can be treated with supplements and creams, resulting in healthy living and longer life.
